How can I zip/unzip files on other computers?

If you are using an IBM-compatible machine, then you will need PKWare products such as PKZip and PKUnzip to zip and unzip files. For other platforms, Info-ZIP is probably your best bet; check standard archive sites for their zip and unzip programs.
